What’s Behind the Substance Use Matters

Teen substance use often points to something deeper. Alcohol or drugs may become a way to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, shame, peer pressure, or emotions that feel too hard to manage.

At Imagine, care focuses on the patterns behind the behavior, not the substance use alone. Teens learn how to recognize triggers, understand what fuels their choices, and build healthier ways to handle stress, cravings, relationships, and daily pressure.

Substance-Related Issues We Treat

Substance use can affect a teen’s mood, choices, relationships, school performance, and sense of self. We support teens facing challenges such as:

  • Using alcohol or drugs to cope with stress, anxiety, trauma, or difficult emotions
  • Continuing to use despite consequences at home, school, or with friends
  • Pulling away from school, hobbies, responsibilities, or future goals
  • Hiding, lying, or becoming secretive about substance use
  • Strong urges or cravings that make stopping feel difficult
  • Risky social situations, peer pressure, or trouble setting boundaries
  • Substance use connected to depression, shame, low self-esteem, or emotional pain
  • Family conflict, broken trust, or communication struggles related to substance use

Our Levels of Care

We offer multiple levels of care so teens can receive the support and structure that fit their needs, daily routine, and clinical recommendation while continuing to live at home.

Care That Addresses Each Pattern

Substance use rarely happens in isolation. It can be tied to stress, mental health symptoms, peer relationships, family conflict, low confidence, trauma, grief, or the need to escape emotions that feel too heavy.

At Imagine Omaha, teens receive support that connects those pieces. Care focuses on why substance use is happening, what situations increase risk, and what safer choices can look like in real life.

By addressing what sits underneath substance use, teens can build coping skills that support real change at home, at school, and in their relationships.
